Windows 11 Professional overview
Windows 11 Professional is Microsoft’s business edition of Windows 11. It covers everything in Windows 11 Home and adds encryption, remote access, virtualization and centralized management. The same license works for a clean installation or for upgrading an existing Windows 10 or Windows 11 Home machine.
Windows 11 Pro is the edition a computer needs as soon as it does more than personal browsing. It contains everything in Windows 11 Home and adds the capabilities that make a PC manageable and defensible: BitLocker drive encryption, Remote Desktop hosting, Hyper-V virtualization, Windows Sandbox, and the ability to join a domain or Microsoft Entra ID and be governed by Group Policy.
Why choose Windows 11 Professional
- Your data is encrypted. BitLocker is the single biggest reason to buy Pro. A lost laptop running Home is a data breach; a lost laptop running Pro with BitLocker on is a lost laptop.
- You can connect in. Home can start a Remote Desktop session but cannot accept one. Pro can host.
- You can run virtual machines. Hyper-V and Windows Sandbox let you test software, run a legacy application, or open something you do not trust, without risking the host.
- It can join a network properly. Active Directory and Entra ID join, Group Policy, and Mobile Device Management all require Pro.
Check your hardware first
Windows 11 will not install without TPM 2.0 and UEFI Secure Boot, and it is 64-bit only. Most machines sold from around 2018 onward qualify, and on many PCs the TPM is present but switched off in firmware. Microsoft’s free PC Health Check tool settles it in seconds. If your PC does not qualify, say so before ordering — Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is the usual answer for hardware Windows 11 rejects.

Windows 11 Professional system requirements
- Processor: 1 GHz or faster with 2 or more cores, on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Storage: 64 GB or larger
- Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
- Security hardware: TPM version 2.0
- Graphics: DirectX 12 compatible with a WDDM 2.0 driver
- Display: High definition (720p), larger than 9″ diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
- Account and internet: required to complete setup
Windows 11 is 64-bit only. There is no 32-bit edition, and a PC without TPM 2.0 and UEFI Secure Boot cannot run it.
How to download Windows 11 Professional
- Open the email from Vaneyo containing your license key — it arrives within minutes of purchase. Check your spam folder if it is not in the inbox.
- Go to Microsoft’s official download page at microsoft.com/software-download and pick the release you are installing.
- Choose your route: the Installation Assistant to upgrade the PC you are sitting at, or the Media Creation Tool or ISO for a clean install from USB.
- For a USB install, use an empty 8 GB or larger drive — the tool erases it.
The Windows installation media is the same for every edition; your key decides which edition activates.
Installation and activation
Upgrading an existing PC
- Run the Installation Assistant and let it check the hardware and download Windows. Your files and applications are kept.
- When it finishes, go to Settings → System → Activation → Change product key and enter your 25-character key.
Clean installation
- Boot from the USB drive, selecting it in the firmware boot menu if necessary.
- Choose your language and keyboard, then Install now.
- Enter your product key when prompted and select the matching edition — it must match the license you bought.
- Accept the license terms, choose Custom: Install Windows only, and pick the target disk. A clean install erases that disk, so back up first.
- Finish setup, then confirm under Settings → System → Activation that Windows reports as activated.

Compatibility
- Hardware: 64-bit PCs meeting the requirements above, including Intel 8th-generation and newer, AMD Ryzen 2000-series and newer, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 and newer.
- Upgrades: installs over Windows 10 and over Windows 11 Home, keeping files and applications.
- Software: runs Microsoft 365, Office LTSC 2021 and 2024, Visual Studio, SQL Server client tools and the standard Windows application catalog.
- Networks: joins Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID; manageable through Group Policy and Intune.
- Not supported: machines without TPM 2.0 or UEFI Secure Boot, 32-bit processors, and Apple silicon Macs as a native install.
